Tuesday 15th May
On the move early to catch a
flight to Oslo, we were advised that a bus departed near the hostel for the
airport which saved us a tram and train trip and was about half the price.
Our flight pushed out from the
terminal five minutes early but took twenty five minutes to taxi to the take-off
point, an hour and a half flight and four minutes to taxi to the terminal and
we were in Norway.
The train ride into Oslo provided
a complete change in scenery from our last three week’s travel through Europe,
where we didn’t see a hill and all the country side was lush and green. The farm lands here are hilly and many of the
cropping paddocks were brown with last year’s stubble or being ploughed for
this year’s crops and we didn’t see many animals grazing though there was
plenty of pasture.
Arriving at Oslo Central we had a
ten minute walk to the hostel but it took ten minutes to find some street names
and work out which direction to walk.
The hostel is rather tired and costs more than the better hotels we have
stayed in but has a kitchen which will save us some money in this very
expensive country; we are only staying here for one night before travelling on
to Flam but will return in three weeks.
